At one time the traffic in tea upset the balance of payments for the British Empire, and led to Western powers literally dealing drugs -- aggressively promoting the use of opium in China. And of course, the humble tea leaf helps support the cornerstone of American liberty, since Colonials first brewed up their independence in Boston Harbor.
