ALL THE TEA IN CHINA
Savvy generals in ancient China preferred payment in rare teas instead of sprawling landholdings. For centuries, seers have predicted the future in its leaves, and tea has nurtured elaborate social rituals and ceremonies. Commerce in the tiny leaf has literally changed the way nations do business, with the world’s fastest clipper ships racing to control financial empires.
At one time the traffic in tea upset the balance of payments for the British Empire, and led to Western powers literally dealing drugs -- aggressively promoting the use of opium in China. And of course, the humble tea leaf helps support the cornerstone of American liberty, since Colonials first brewed up their independence in Boston Harbor.
Tea is the ultimate pick-me-up or calm-me-down, and special secret blends are said to cure impotence, diabetes, indigestion, colds, flu, or help ward off depression, stress, cholesterol and even freckles. With some 7,000 known varieties, and more being developed, we don’t have all the tea in China, but we humbly offer these samples of history’s most enduring beverage.
JUST BREW IT
Typhoon! has gathered one of the finest collections of premium teas in the world. If purchased "loose," some rare teas cost $3000 per pound and more. Yet by the pot such premium teas represent extraordinary value when compared with bottles of wine of comparable quality.
Most finer teas may also be purchased to take home loose, by the ounce (serving approximately 20 cups). Price list of teas and accessories on request. "House" teas bearing the "Typhoon!" signature represent teas which we feel offer an extraordinary combination of quality and value.
